Our first stop on our honeymoon in the USA was New York City. We wanted our honeymoon to get off to a great start and planned a few treats while we were in New York. Here are five honeymoon worthy activities in New York City we recommend if you’re planning your honeymoon in the Big Apple!
Arrive in Style – Limo Transfer
This really was a splurge but it was really fun and after our long haul flight it was great to not have to think how we would be getting into Manhattan from JFK. We pre-booked a transfer with NYC Rich Limo including a bottle of champagne which we did manage to finish before we got to Manhattan due to the usual traffic.
If you want to start your time in New York with something a bit different travelling into the city this way rather than a yellow cab or ride share is much more romantic and will get your trip off to a great start.
Sunset Cruise on the Hudson
We pre-booked a sunset cruise on the Shearwater Classic Schooner with Manhattan by Sail. This was definitely a highlight of our time in New York. You meet the boat in the North Cove Marina which is surrounded by bars if you want a drink before you set sail. There’s no need to though as they have a full bar on board!
Seeing the Statue of Liberty at sunset from a sailing boat on the Hudson was an amazing experience and one neither of us will forget. It’s a great opportunity to spend some time together out of the packed New York City streets.
Another highlight was sailing back towards Manhattan now all lit up for the night, it created a great atmosphere on board and of course a very romantic experience to have while in New York!
Rowing on The Lake in Central Park
Something that is very affordable and very romantic in New York is to hire a rowing boat from Loeb Boathouse in Central Park. This is also something that can be done on the spur of the moment and doesn’t need to be pre-booked.
Typically you hire a boat for an hour which is enough time to get around the lake. We spotted turtles and plenty of birds as we made our way around. It is a whole different side to New York and we loved our time in Central Park. Something not to be missed and is a great option for all budgets.
Breakfast with a view at Asiate
What’s more romantic than food and a view? The view from Asiate in the Mandarin Oriental is hard to beat. We had breakfast here and pre-booking a table directly for our honeymoon was definitely worth it. We were lucky to get a table by the window to have the view over Central Park uninterrupted. If you’re looking for somewhere for a special meal it’s an option you should consider, it’s a full restaurant and would be a great dinner option if you prefer.
See a Broadway Show
Broadway is of course one of the most well known attractions of New York, it’s also great for date nights and romantic breaks to the city. There are shows for all tastes and it’s the perfect opportunity to get dressed up and have a night out on the town.
We had tickets to see Anastasia on a Saturday night and it was amazing, the cast was brilliant and I’d rate it as a do not miss experience when visiting New York. Don’t stop at just taking in a show though, New York is full of world class restaurants for you to try before or after the theatre, be sure to make a night of it if you’re lucky enough to get tickets.
If musicals aren’t for you and you don’t like plays either there are loads of comedy clubs that might suit you. You won’t be short of choices for evening entertainment while you’re visiting New York. Start your search on Playbill for current performances both on and off Broadway.
